Manic Panic Lip Gloss and Lipstick Review

[The following is a sponsored review for Manic Panic.]

Today I received a package from Manic Panic and I was stoked!  They kindly sent me two products for review:  The Radioactive Lip Gloss and the Tainted Love Lipstick. I am excited because I knew they’d be sending me shades of red, which is one of my favorites right now!  Without wasting any time, I unwrapped the package and was delighted.

The packaging was very interesting for the gloss.  It has a low-quality mirror on one of the sides of the tube and when you turn the cap open, it lights up!  This makes the application fun!

I decided to try the Radioactive gloss first and, honestly, I was amazed at the pigment.  I only applied it once and it gave me full coverage.  The texture was very smooth and the gloss was indeed very glossy!  I also felt like it made my lips look plumper.  Big plus!  Out of the two products, this gloss is my favorite.

(These photos were taken with the light of a lamp and no flash)

As you can see, both shades are very similar and are a very warm hue (orangy).  I don’t know if it’s the unbearable heat in New York, or if the lipstick is really this soft, but when I painted my lips with “Tainted Love” it felt as if it was melting right onto them.  The claim is that this is a matte lipstick, but I saw a sheen and it did not feel as dry as other matte lipsticks do.  Perhaps the heat again?  I might have to try it on a cooler day.

I was also delighted to find out that this brand is cruelty free and vegan, which always makes a beauty lover feel better.  The lipsticks sell for $8 and the glosses for $12 and I’d say those are not bad price points considering the quality in the pigment of these lippies.

My verdict is: TRY THEM!  I am always happy to find products that deserve a good review.  These are in that bunch!

Here’s a fun photo of me applying Radioactive over my Tainted Love lipstick with the light!  Good idea for those who want to look great even in the darkness of a club or lounge ;)

Beauty Quickie: Sweet Honey Lips

Honey is a multi-purpose miracle from nature that can not only make some sweet treats - but can also transform hair, skin and lips with moisture.

Today, I’m going to share with you one of the little things I do to maintain really soft, kissable, lipstick-ready lips.  This is what we’ll need:

  1. 1 Teaspoon of Brown Sugar
  2. 1 Tablespoon of Honey

After crushing the brown sugar to turn it into finer crystals, pour the tablespoon of honey into a small recipient and sprinkle the teaspoon of crushed brown sugar on top.  With clean hands, mix them well with your index until the consistency is thick and grainy.  Now, using the same index finger, apply the sweet mixture onto your lips, fully coating them, and massage gently for as long as you deem necessary.

When done, dampen a paper towel with warm water and remove from lips.  The result should be super soft lips without any dryness.  Your lips should be restored to their natural state!

For maintenance, I like to use honey like it’s a lip balm at night before I go to bed. Leaving it on overnight really penetrates moisture and waking up to sweet lips is a plus!

My Look: 5-20-2012

Today my boyfriend and I went to see my Mother to bring her a yummy red velvet cake and some cider to celebrate her 64th birthday.  The nice weather has finally kicked in, and I’m glad because the only thing that fits right now are maxi dresses and  tights (I’m happily expecting!).  Here’s what I chose to wear today!

a black vest over an old Forever 21 tank, some black tights with metal stones, grey bag and a pair of cheap sandals.  perfect for a summer day!

on my face, we’ve got NARS “Cuba” tinted moisturizer (I can’t live without it!), Maybelline “Coral Crush” lipstick and some NAKED2 palette colors on my eyes, although its hardly noticeable in this pic!

thanking my mom and my boyfriend for a wonderful day! the laughs and good vibes truly do me well :)  mami, I love you with everything I have.  you are the true example of kindness and a lady that I am already following.  I can only hope to be half the lady and mother that you are to this day, to my own children.  I can’t believe I was this blessed to have been born from you.  you, my baby, my brother and my boyfriend are my only family.  I will love you forever, beyond life.

Lipstick Remix: Peachy Love!

So, the other day I felt like experimenting with two lipsticks I love:  Maybelline’s “Peachy Scene” and MAC’s “Honey Love”.

Peachy Scene is a pearly pink that makes practically any face look fresh and Honey Love is nude lip heaven.

I put on Peachy Scene first and was pleasantly surprised when I smoothed on some Honey Love on top.  It created a really soft, baby powder pink lip - which got me plenty of compliments that day and people asking what shade it was.  I called it…Peachy Love ;)  Here are the pictures of the slight but pretty transformation!

Honey Love on its own.
